Course overview
Pattachitra, or Patachitra, is a traditional cloth-based scroll painting style that originates from the eastern Indian states of Odisha and West Bengal, as well as parts of Bangladesh. This ancient art form is celebrated for its intricate detailing, vibrant colors, and the mythological narratives and folktales that it beautifully portrays.

Deeply rooted in history, Pattachitra was originally crafted for ritualistic purposes and as cherished souvenirs for pilgrims visiting temples like the iconic Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. In Bengal, it evolved as a visual aid for storytelling, accompanying songs that conveyed cultural and religious tales.

Today, Pattachitra continues to captivate art enthusiasts with its timeless charm, blending tradition with artistry to keep India’s rich heritage alive.
