Shyama Shastri (1762–1827), born Venkata Subrahmanya Iyer in Tiruvarur, was a prominent composer and the oldest member of the Carnatic Music Trinity. A great devotee of Goddess Kamakshi, he composed beautiful kritis, swarajatis, and varnams, many in praise of the Divine Mother. Known for his emotional depth, intricate rhythmic patterns, and innovative use of ragas, he made a lasting contribution to Carnatic music. His soulful compositions enriched devotional music and continue to be cherished in classical performances across India.
