Muktabai, the youngest sibling of saints Nivrittinath, Dnyaneshwar, and Sopandev, was a pioneering female voice in the 13th-century Varkari Bhakti tradition. Despite her young age, her profound wisdom humbled the powerful yogi Changdev, who accepted her as his guru. She composed 41 abhangas in simple Marathi, emphasising devotion to Vitthal, self-realisation, and spiritual equality. Her verses, preserved in the Namdev Gatha, strengthened the Bhakti movement by making deep spiritual insights accessible to common people and promoting devotion beyond caste and gender.
