Sant Janabai (c. 1270–1350), a low-caste woman and maidservant in the household of Sant Namdev, composed over 300 abhangas dedicated to Lord Vitthal. Despite her humble background and daily labour, she created profound devotional poetry that expressed deep spiritual longing and everyday struggles. Her verses boldly challenged caste discrimination and gender inequality, promoting the Bhakti ideal that devotion is open to all. Her work enriched Marathi literature and strengthened the message of social equality within the Varkari tradition.
