Bammera Pothana (c. 1450–1510), a revered Telugu poet and saint, made a landmark contribution by translating the Bhagavata Purana into Telugu as Andhra Mahabhagavatamu. By rendering this sacred text in simple, elegant Telugu, he broke the monopoly of Sanskrit scholars and made profound spiritual knowledge accessible to common people. His devotional work is considered a masterpiece of Telugu literature and played a major role in popularising Krishna Bhakti in Andhra and Telangana.
