Lal Ded (Lalleshwari, 1320–1392), a revered Kashmiri Shaivite yogini and mystic poet, is one of the most beloved spiritual figures of Kashmir. Through her profound mystical verses called Vatsun or Vakhs, she popularised direct personal experience of the divine. Her poetry, rooted in Kashmir Shaivism, emphasised the oneness of existence and transcended ritualism. Lal Ded’s work created a unique spiritual bridge between Hindu Shaivism and Sufi thought, promoting love, tolerance, and inner realisation that continues to inspire both communities in Kashmir.
