Bahinabai Chaudhary (1880–1951) was a remarkable illiterate poet from the Khandesh region of Maharashtra who composed deeply insightful poetry in the Ahirani (Khandeshi) dialect. Married at the age of 13, she faced immense hardships as a farmer, widow, and mother, yet beautifully balanced her responsibilities as a devoted housewife with her inner spiritual quest. Her simple yet profound poems, later transcribed by her son Sopandev, reflect rural life, nature, human suffering, and quiet devotion, enriching Marathi literature with the authentic voice of a rural woman.
