Abhinavagupta (c. 950–1016 CE), the illustrious philosopher and mystic of Kashmir, systematised Kashmir Shaivism (Trika philosophy) through his seminal works. A master of tantra, yoga, and aesthetics, he authored the Abhinavabharati, a landmark commentary on Bharata’s Natyashastra. He redefined aesthetic theory by linking rasa (aesthetic experience) with spiritual bliss, showing how art can lead to realisation of the divine. His profound contributions enriched Indian philosophy, literature, and cultural understanding of beauty and consciousness.
