Kanakadasa (1509–1609), a 16th-century Haridasa saint and poet from Karnataka, was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. Born into the Kuruba shepherd community, he faced caste discrimination but boldly advocated social equality through his powerful kirtanas and philosophical works like Haribhaktisara and Nalacharita. He taught that all human beings are equal by birth and existence, and true devotion transcends caste and social status. His literary and musical contributions enriched Kannada culture and strengthened the message of equality in the Bhakti tradition.
