Andal (8th century), the only woman among the 12 Alvars, is revered for her intense devotional love for Lord Vishnu (as Krishna). Born in Srivilliputhur, she composed two celebrated Tamil works, Thiruppavai and Nachiyar Thirumozhi. Her passionate poetry expressed bridal mysticism and unconditional surrender to God. Andal challenged social norms by rejecting marriage to a human and declaring herself the bride of Vishnu. Her profound bhakti continues to inspire millions and holds a central place in Tamil Vaishnava tradition and South Indian culture.
